Zinc Oxide

What is Zinc Oxide?

Zinc oxide is an inorganic Zinc compound with ZnO formula. ZnO is a white powder that is insoluble in water and is widely used in various industries such as cosmetics, food, and batteries.

Effect of ZnO

ZnO is mainly used in weaned pig. In the intestine, ZnO supplementation can increase beneficial bacteria and reduce pathogenic bacteria. So beneficial bacteria, such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, help to improve the gut health, ADG, and feed efficiency even better. And diarrhea is reduced due to the reduction of pathogenic bacteria.

Problem of ZnO

1. Environmental issues

Pig manure is often used as an organic fertilizer. Therefore, a large amount of ZnO in manure is sprayed on the ground and absorbed by water, affecting the various resources and environment used by humans.

2. Accumulation in organs

Excessive ZnO intake leads to the accumulation of zinc ions. High concentration of zinc is toxic and can induce a stress response that inhibits metabolism and damage the liver, resulting in poor performance.

Alternatives

1.        Bacteriophage

A bacteriophage, also known as a phage, is a microorganism that can control specific bacteria. Bacteriophage can improve intestinal microflora and gut health by killing pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, growth performance is improved and diarrhea is reduced.

2.      Encapsulated zinc oxide

Excessive use of zinc oxide becomes a problem. Encapsulated zinc oxide solves this problem and can produce a good effect even in the small amount.
